Everything is a little different in New Orleans. The local branch of the biggest international hunting organization, the Vanguard, is no exception. Run by Mama for as long as anyone can remember the New Orleans outpost is a lot looser than most other Vanguard outposts. Mama is friendly with the vampire lord and sometimes local hunting families are invited to fae parties.
For the most part New Orleans exists in a well defined peace between hunters and wyrd. Each knows their limits and how the rules are enforced. But it’s far from perfect peace and there a has been a rise in the number of wyrd involved crimes that the Vanguard have had to deal with. Now there are new voices too.
Wyrd voices whispering about how the laws only govern wyrd behavior and not that of hunters. Voices saying that the hunters are being unfair, unjust, that Wouldn’t life be better if the hunters disappeared? Some of the wyrd are listening.
But that pales in comparison to the newest threat.
Someone - or something - is on a murder spree. The only things connecting the deaths are the fact that all of them in some way relate to the wyrd underground and the fact that the murderer is clearly only doing this for those in the wyrd community.
Two vampires, one donor, three fae, three pack members, two magic users, and three hunters, have died over the last eight months. Some in groups, others alone. All of them hidden in places that only the wyrd community would look.
Tensions are high as talk of letting lapse the laws that allow the wyrd and hunters to coexist mix with concern over the murders. After all someone needs to be blamed, and hunters are looking quite the easy target…

Welcome to the Vanguard.
You will be playing as someone new in the Vanguard. Whether you are a born hunter or someone with a specialized skill set who has had the misfortune of being the victim of a wyrd crime is your choice.
Regardless of whether or not your character is in one of the hunting families they have to be 18+. The Vanguard has very specific rules about not training minors and Mama is in total agreement with those rules. Individual families and individual parents within those families may set stricter rules about when a person can enter Vanguard, but that is on a case by case basis. However, generally hunting families will teach their children basic self-defense, and local wyrd lore and law (a six-month crash course between new hunters and a current Vanguard member has occurred prior to the start of the game).
Whatever your character is good at they are among the best. Especially in an area where there are four different hunting families (and not every member of a hunting family is in the Vanguard). I have, however, chosen to forgo the normal practice of Natures being roles, because I don’t want you to think your characters can only be one thing. Instead the Natures are why they chose to join the Vanguard. I tried to make them as open ended as possible without them being subplots, feel free to make your own, though.

Honestly, you don’t have to read the Harmony Laws and only have to worry about the families if you’re going to be in one and the creatures can be referenced as needed. Wow… why did I even bother… Ah well, it’s there if you want it.
