Out of roughly 25 thousand girls, we’re searching for one to play our new lead, Vivienne, in the Tony award winning, hot new musical gracing Broadway, the story of love, drama, and a tiny bit of confusion: Twelfth. But it wont be easy.
There are thousands of girls that would kill to get this role, to have their Broadway debut as the biggest star up there. And after the initial audition in each of their home towns, then the first audition in New York City, the drama gets turned up another notch. The girls get to live in a nice, fully furnished flat– all together.
Three weeks of rigorous auditions, singing, dancing, and acting, all while living together in the same New York apartment, all competing for their dream: a starring role on Broadway. Will there be drama? Will there be cat fights and petty pranks? Will there be one girl who will rise above them all to be Broadway’s biggest star? All this, and more, is yet to unfold on Twelfth.
This is an entirely fictionalized modern musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night- entitled Twelfth. It follows the protagonist Vivienne (Twelfth Night’s Viola) as she moves to New York to discover who really us. While there, she disguises herself as the sporty, mildly frat boy Cedric (Cesario) to win the friendship of Orlando (Orsino)– the rich guy in the next door apartment who’s parents have just cut him off. The musical then continues to follow the thoroughly convoluted twists and turns of the original Twelfth Night, ending in the same way as the original play did. (Minus the marriage– all the characters are young twenties) There is one musical number that I know of so far named “Madly In Love (with another)“, in which there are not only extremely high notes from Vivienne and Olivia, but also a very confusing dance number, as all three main characters puzzle out their confusing love triangle.
