The year is 2030. It has been fifteen years since the world went mad, bombs raining from the sky as if mother nature had decided to fight back. No one is really sure who fired first, but everyone was hit. The world burned, and then it fell apart.
It wasn’t the fire, or the chaos, or the people that tore it apart, but the bombs. The bombs were filled with all sorts of chemicals, each different based on their targeted region. First the chemicals killed, and then they mutated, and with them, the remaining organisms of Earth.
The United States was hit with a total of four different types of bombs: Red in the West, Green in the East, Black in the South, and Blue in the Midwest. Each bomb came with a different chemical, and with it, different effects.
The Red bombs of the West were fire in nature. The chemicals ate away at the flesh of its victims, leaving people exposed and in excruciating pain. But the virus prevented its victims from dying, leaving them as walking ghouls. Holding the intelligence of their human lives, they are forever maimed, resilient to life, immune to death.
The Green bombs of the East brought unyielding radiation. While possible to avoid the affected areas, those exposed to the chemicals quickly mutate, turning into a variety of monstrosities that terrorize the land. The most unchanged of these creatures, the super mutants, have become brutish creatures who have long forgotten their humanity.
In the South, the Black bombs brought the plague. It spread quickly, wiping out the majority of those affected. The few who survived became immune to all sickness, their bodies and minds turning them into hardened, lonely members of the Black Brotherhood.
Unlike the other three regions, everyone living in the Midwest was inflicted by the pathogen of the Blue bombs. The chemicals of the Blue were silent killers, showing no symptoms. Months passed before the first victim suddenly collapsed, paralyzed in everything but the mind. The disease was sporadic, unpredictable, and drove the Midwest into chaos.
Ten years after the bombings, society began to slowly rebuild itself with a variety of organizations. One of those organizations created the Hub, a city built out of the remnants of Chicago. It was created as a haven for survivors of all regions to gather for trade, survival, and a chance to build a new life.
But with each passing year, more and more Midwestern’s fall victim to the effects of Blue. As they fade away, so, too, do the last remnants of the American life.
