The British got just about everywhere when building their empire. It shouldn’t really come as that much of a surprise that they reached the underworld too.
Founded on the far bank of the River Styx in 1832 by the legendary gentleman-explorer Sir Stamford Wolsey, New Sheffield was for a century the prize of the British Empire. But nothing lasts, and when the Empire collapsed the skeletons, ghouls and various other inhabitants of the city gratefully seized the chance to regain their independence. In 2014, the extent of Surface involvement in Necropolis, as it is now known, is the British-owned Stygian Travel Agency and a sizable number of expatriate residents - and the Supraterranean Embassy.
This is where you work, dealing with the living on holiday, the unfortunates who mistake the carnivorous zombies for the civilised Afterlifers, people trying to smuggle their dead relatives back across the river, and all the other day-to-day troubles that result from cramming the living and the dead together in close proximity. Part police force, part business operation and part diplomatic agency, yours are the difficult tasks that the Hadean administration doesn’t like.
It’s not an easy job.
You seriously doubt that the murder of Hades’ favourite demigod is going to make it any easier.
Feel free to make new cards, especially Subplots. You’re going to be telling the story as well as me, so do feel free to take control of NPCs if you need to, although of course other players’ characters are off limits. Ideally, we’ll drive the story with character interaction as well as plot.
