It’s been hailed as a bold adventure. Possibly man’s greatest venture in history.
Twelve planets that spectrographic analysis revealed had compatible atmospheres for humans to survive. Indications of surface water and mass/density consistent with a gravity of around 1g.
Twelve crews selected for their skills and talents. Scientists, explorers, adventurers.
Twelve ships. each one named for a sign of the zodiac. Equipped with the latest White-Acubierre negative mass drives. Capable of travelling much further, much quicker than anything else humanity has built to date.
You are the crew of the Aquarius. Your planet has the rather unimaginative designation G-L324/C. Like Earth, the third planet in a solar system not unlike our own. In orbit around a G-class star. That star lies in a cluster of systems a little over two hundred light years from Earth,
You are the vanguard. Your mission is simple. Explore the planet and assess it for suitability as a new home. Return to Earth with as much data as you can collate.
There are risks of course. Your ships are so fast that, should you be unable to return it will be over ten years before help can arrive. You will be on your own.
The feel I am going for is the wonder of exploration with the very real dangers of a new environment that has some kind of alien life.
