Genre: Superhero Adventure
Inspirations: Young Avengers (TV); Spider-Man: Homecoming; Cloak and Dagger; The Runaways.
The Pitch: Sins of the Father is a street-level superhero game where supers up to this point have been confined to comic books and movies. The character should be in the 9th grade.
The game world is intended to be gritty so mature (R Rated) scenes are acceptable. Also, the powers of the heroes and villains will be very deadly to the non-powered. A bystander hit by a thrown truck is going to die. Freezing a civilian’s arm is going to result in probable amputation at the very least. The nanites that provide heroes with their powers will protect them from this level of easy damage so they can engage in the normal levels of action and combat that you might expect in a Marvel or DC comic.
Setting: Streets of Strangewayes is set in the fictional city of Strangewayes, located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, north of Tampa.
Prior to WWII Strangewayes existed only as a minor marine research lab on Glass Island. During WWII the US military poured resources into the area building a major naval port on the mainland as well as expanding out the research lab on Glass Island. The lab was the primary hub for a paranormal weapons research initiative called Project Wormwood – a secret weapons project that was eventually closed down due to a lack of weaponizable results. Glass Island is still restricted and maintained by the military.
Because of its scientific origins, a major private research university was founded in Strangewayes and it has always maintained very strong physical science, mathematics, and marine engineering programs. Other noted programs are its history and classics departments.
Three crime families make up the organized crime underbelly of Strangeways: the Tredici (run by Vittoria Tredici), the Los Zetas’ and the newly arrived Šerbedžija. Of the three the Tredici are the most powerful and the Šerbedžija the most flagrantly violent.
The docks have continued to be maintained and are for the most part owned by Core Techs, a weapons manufacturer with strong ties to the US Military.
