The world was not always like this. Centuries ago, mankind ruled the earth and were all of a single species. But there was a cataclysm, the cause of which is unknown (though the most popular origin story claims it was brought on by some insane weapon used by the ancient people of that time).

In any case, there is now a portion of the world where the ground itself has been turned into a vast sea of glass. There are ruins, massive skeletons of steel and rust where cities used to be. But the ancient world still has some treasures left, both understood as modern magic and ancient technomantic magic powered by circuits and wires and electricity.

The world is a new place occupied by new people born of ancient magics and strange ways, but all come from human stock on some level.

It is a certain group of those people we follow in this tale. That group is all meeting in a village called Kingsfield. The village itself is nothing particularly of note save that it sits on top of a cavern that once housed an underground complex built by ancient humans from the last era, known as the Once Great.

You have traveled here together to enter the underground complex and plunder its treasures.

You just didn’t know where that would lead.
