Isaac Marshall, celebrated author of “Hero without Sin” the first in a twelve book series of best-selling books which introduced readers to his alternate view of the world and culture within a mirror-society of our own, died on Monday at his home in Seattle. He was 76.
Critics were initially unsure what to make of the themes and representations in Marshall’s novels, however they were received by his dedicated fans with devotion and adoration, resulting in a following which burgeoned into an enthusiastic second generation revival following the introduction of the internet.
During his time at Columbia in the 1960s, Marshall met Isabel Coffman, who he later married. Besides his now ex-wife, Mr. Marshall is survived by a brother, and several children.
Mr. Marshall published 25 books and won numerous honours, including a career achievement award in 2007 from the American Society of Journalists and Authors. In more recent years, he had become somewhat of a recluse, though he occasionally lectured in universities about his writing.
His publisher has confirmed he died of natural causes after a long illness, which he had denied previously in the press. Seattle Times Obituary- September 12th 2016
Now that Dad’s gone, there’s a lot to do. He’s been living alone for years, since the divorce really (though there was a few years of attempting to hold down girlfriends). His funeral needs planning, but beyond that, he knew he was going to die, down to the day it seems, and he had mailed letters out to most of the family in advance, to ensure that they will be at the house within the week.
The letters were personal. They contained confirmation of things that some suspected, and secrets that no one expected. That was Zac all over, he loved the drama.
So now people are arriving, to put him in the ground and to deal with some of the “truths” he revealed. It’s not the family reunion some people might have wanted.
