The year is 2014, the place: New York City. But this is not our world. In this world, superheroes and supervillains battle for supremacy. Strange visitors from other worlds and creatures that raid the world’s cities from beneath the earth’s crust are commonplace. Alongside pop culture magazines are tabloids dedicated to super-beings and rumors about their private lives. YouTube is full of clips of amazing encounters between people with god-like powers. 24-hour news stations are filled with talking heads debating the legality of superheroes and whether they do more harm than good.
Unfortunately for the regular folks, something big is coming, and it’s coming fast.

-The game takes place on what is essentially an alternate earth, not too unlike our own. Similar to Marvel and DC’s worlds. The tone will have some humor, but will be fairly gritty: think about Bendis’ “Powers,” if you’ve ever read it. There will also be insane scenes of action and brutal superpowered violence. Not unlike Warren Ellis’ “The Authority” and “Planetary.” The world is amazing and scary and weird, and the public doesn’t know half of what’s going on around them.
-You may choose to create your own cards, but I’ve laid out a whole bunch just for the hell of it. I encourage creating your own if there’s something you don’t see here.
As you’ll notice, your Nature card is almost literally that. Your origin or place on the team. Your Strengths and Weaknesses have nothing at all to do with your powers. Don’t make them about your powers. If you have super-strength, don’t give yourself a super-strength Strength card. Same goes for any other ability. These should be about your personality, not your super powers. (Alternatively, if your super power is that you’re some kind of braniac, don’t choose Intelligent or anything of that sort.) Weaknesses are character flaws. Feel free to make up your own subplot if you don’t find one that fits.
Your powers will be detailed in your biography. It is going to be understood that you have crazy abilities; your cards don’t need to reflect that. In your moves, you can simply use your powers without cards. That leaves us more room for personalities to show up.
-As an aside, don’t apply with a character without an avatar. First of all, I hate that empty box. Second, I want to make sure you’re paying attention to all of this if you’re applying. If you submit a character without an avatar, you’ll be automatically rejected.
-Finally: your bio should look like a file or application of some sort. Imagine a confidential dossier.
It should contain your character’s full name, their code name, where they’re from, their age, their origin story, a breakdown of their powers, any allies or foes, and a brief biography. Feel free to add anything else you want to be known. Also, you can play a character that’s been with the team for ages or play a new recruit. Make a note of it somewhere on your application.
