These are the Millennial Nights.
Portland has always been a city of change and contradiction. This does not bode well for the hidebound elder Vampires, and as such, the Camarilla has always been weak in the City of Roses. Still, a small alliance of the Kindred have remained in a loose court, watched over by the Toreador Prince Stieg. They are united by fear of the wild Garou in the mountains, the looming chaos to the south, and maybe even a Dream… a Dream of a city of arts and personal fulfillment and constant renewal, where all are welcome in peace and hospitality so long as they embrace the Weird.
But then.
Stieg lay destroyed at Elysium, diablerized by his very own childe. The betrayal causes the court to collapse, every ancillae and elder seeing Sabbat in the shadows, in every late-night barista, and every neonate. As the bounds of vampire society buckle and elder threaten to destroy childe, the clans withdraw into their havens, and violence breaks out in the streets, threatening to destroy the careful masquerade that kept the city balanced on the knife’s edge of chaos. The economy tanks. Breweries start to close. Uber drivers start to refuse pick-ups in the Pearl District.
Into the chaos steps Asa Lovejoy. Founder of the City of Roses, 133 years dead…. and an Anarch. His family, bound by living blood made undead, quickly seize control of the Camarilla holdings in the city, and force a truce and an ultimatum: All are welcome in Portland, kine or kin or even beast, so long as they oppose the Sabbat. The blood hunt is declared upon Stieg’s murderous lieutenant, but so also are the Camarilla blocked from declaring a new Prince. Baron Lovejoy will hold one final office of public trust here in the greatest city of the Columbia Valley.
Meanwhile, the chaos does not go unnoticed. Sabbat, hungry for a foothold into the north, prowl at the corners disguised as hipsters and Los Angeleans. Garou, stressed by global warming and the increasingly greedy touch of loggers, press against the edges of the city for relief or even strange allies. And while the dream of the ‘90s might be alive in Portland, no one said it was the 1990s. Ancient feuds and wars find their amnesty in the Dream, but how long can Assamite and Tremere bump elbows in the dark….?
Setting Notes: This is very much Vampire Lite - we are using the trappings and world-building of the setting, but I see no reason to hold strictly to those or spend hours digging about in the wiki and source books. The mood can be as tongue-in-cheek as Portlandia with Supernaturals, or it can go as dark and melodramatic as any 1990s gothling would desire.
In this setting, the Sabbat threatens the West Coast from Mexico, the Anarchs and Camarilla fight over the major cities of California, but the PNW had remained peacefully and mysteriously untouched by the violence as yet.
Play Notes: I thought we might do rotating narration shifts, since Storium allows the ability to pass of narration. Please feel free to suggest cards etc. that I might have missed.
Character Notes: No restrictions within reason. Play a weak-blooded neonate or a mortal or a Garou or an Elder. Any clan, any sect, even a Sabbat. We’re all adults here, and we all know that every character will meet her fate in due time.
I highly encourage everyone to write their own Strengths, Weaknesses, and Subplot cards as necessary.
