Game for Beginners!
In 2304 CE, one hundred years after the first successful implementation of the Light and Energy Acquisition Protocol (LEAP) Drive, humanity has left behind the broken and savage lands of Earth for the unprecedented serenity of the black. Interstellar travel is still something to be desired, as the navigation charts aren’t shared between people very often and nations guard them heavily.
Unlike the dreams that many space-pioneers had about humanity, the voyage into the dark did nothing for their collective greed and fear. When a nation wants to chart a course to another star system, they have to send a single ship there the long way in order to collect computational data.
The Galactic Standard Service ship Ethos is just one such ship, and its crew is the finest investment that the Earth has to offer. Brilliant mathematicians and engineers, astronomers and physicists all inclined toward making their mark on eternity by mapping the first chart to Lacaille 9352. Something that they intend to rename “Genevieve” when they arrive.
Sixteen hours ago, the brightest and the most skilled were disrupted in their stasis. During coolant evacuation and environmental systems compensating, an oxygen-starved pair of hours spelled the end of the main living bay and its inhabitants.
The subordinate bay, on the other hand? The students, the cadets, and the ensigns? Automated systems began to bring them around with readouts of what had come to pass: The remains of the mission, all 60 days of it, have been left in the hands of the backup crew.
This game is meant for new players to acquaint themselves with the Storium platform and to get a short story under their belts. Laid back in narrative and concise on challenges, there’s a hot scoop of some space action on top of a chance to stretch those Storium wings.
While I recommend the character concepts suggested, I’m willing to roll with most anything. The crew is human, as the setting isn’t an extraterrestrial-friendly place quite yet.
Welcome aboard!
