For almost a thousand years, after the War of Destiny, the mortals, centaurs, and elves of Estrelle, have lived in relative peace.
Eventually, the quiet harmony was broken by wicked whispers of a cult of warlocks and witches who wished to resurrect an ancient evil. Then whispers turned into gossip, gossip into worry, and then worry transformed to pure chaos once small children from the mortal nations of Zender, Joddis, and Phaedra began to disappear.
A year later, King Vantor VI, leader of the Gray Elves, was found drained of his blood, floating face up in the Mercy River. Three months later, Queen Hennifer, the Moon Elves’ matriarch, was found face down in her throne room in a similar state. A small note tied to her ankle with twine held a strange symbol: a purple wild flag iris at the center of a red, six-pointed star.
Three days ago, the leader of the Sun Elves, Queen O’Syrune, faced a similar fate. Her royal guards, a legion of trained swordswomen and archers, scrambled for their shields and knives as an ear-shattering scream escaped her royal chamber. All nine of the guards responsible for protecting her rushed into the room just in time to see a man cloaked in black bite into the Queen’s neck.
Before they or their swords could get to the stranger or O’Syrune, the man hissed a spell, and in a flash, he transformed into a large bat.
“My daughter,” O’Syrune muttered as the bat grabbed her left shoulder with its talon-like feet, “Protect my daughter at all costs!”
She was still screaming commands as the bat whisked her out of the palace and began to fly west toward the realms of mortals and the Belli desert.
