It is late evening, about the time when the taproom of The Hanged Man tips over the edge into drunken rowdiness. The patrons are calling for the entertainment to begin, cheerful and raucous, unaware of any threat more terrible than that of running out of ale in their mugs.
And then the door bursts open. A cold cruel wind blasts those sitting closest. A man bolts inside, clutching at his throat and whimpering about witchcraft and demons… and then drops dead, without a mark to show what killed him.
The taproom erupts into chaos.
But, before the ever-predictable locals can call for retaliation against the nearby village of goblin “witches”, the wise-woman Brynja stands and begins to speak, her voice quiet but her words heard by all.
And somehow, after she has spoken, five adventurers find themselves torn away from their plans for the evening and sent out on a quest to discover the truth. Wherever that may lead. Whatever it takes.
