You are awoken by bright flashes of light. You rush to your window to see that your town is right in the middle of a meteor shower. Or are they pieces of an asteroid? You’re not sure what it is, but there are flaming pieces of… something falling from the sky. That one looks like it hit just a couple blocks away.
What is this? There was nothing about this on the news. Surely scientists somewhere would have seen this coming. Why was there no warning, why weren’t we evacuated?! You run outside and something occurs to you. These “meteors” are falling everywhere but you haven’t heard one bang, haven’t felt the earth shake. This is more than a little strange. Then you see it. One is headed right for you. It’s too big, and moving to fast to get out of the way. All you can do is throw your hands over your face, and wait for death. You feel a wave of heat and then… nothing. You open your eyes. You are standing in the same spot, without so much as a scratch. What’s more, there isn’t a crater, no impact whatsoever. You see another… You have no idea what to call these things, but you see it hit the ground and just disappear, like a raindrop into the ocean, but at least that causes a ripple. What the hell is going on here?
The shower caused a lot of upheaval, not just in your community, but throughout the world. Officials have no answer for what happened, and everyone was seeking answers. But aside from scaring the crap out of people, there didn’t seem to have been any harm done. There was no property damage, no fatalities, no effects whatsoever… or so it seemed. Over the next 48 hours, reports began to pour in. A man in london fought his way through dozens of police officers shooting electricity from his hands, A dictator from a third world country was found dead in a farm town in kentucky. Appearing to have been dropped right out of the sky. Very strange things were happening all over the globe.
It is about this time that you discover you have a new supernatural ability, and by the sounds of things you are not the only one who has been Affected.
This story will be set in the modern world. It will be in the same vein of Heroes or the X-men, though you do not need to be familiar with either of them to participate. It will explore how the world would change if a percentage of the population were changed overnight. How would the affected react? How would the common people react? What would various governments do? How would the landscape change?
I’m looking for 5 or 6 players, all of whom will be from the same town in Vermont. All the cards I have created are strictly to set a tone or help to inspire ideas. Consider them placeholders. I very much encourage you to create your own cards, even if you like the idea on one of the cards. Say you want to be a cop, that’s fine, be a cop, but make your own card. Customize it to say exactly what you want. Upload your own image. Make the character yours.
.
You will notice that there are no cards related to your abilities. The abilities are entirely up to you to create, and include in your character story. The rules regarding the abilities are: only one ability. If you can fly, that’s it. No flying and being super strong and bulletproof and having x-ray laser shooting eyes. That’s 5 abilities superman. That being said if you wanted one ability that had multiple functions I might allow that. For example way you wanted enhanced vision, where you could either make you eyes like binoculars, or have night vision, or thermal vision, or x ray etc. That would be something I could get on board with. There’s nothing set in stone here. Just ask for what you want, and I’ll let you know if it’s okay, not okay, or can be tweaked to work. Nothing gamebreaking is my only real concern, especially no control over time. Anyone who did watch heroes knows that is way to strong, and I would like all the players to be relatively equal.
I like to go as fast as the players dictate. So we will strive for at least 3 scenes a week, but can go faster depending on how active the group is.
For writing style I’m thinking first or third person past tense. Either is fine as long as you’re consistant. I generally prefer longer posts. I am hoping for a long term game that will see the world grow and evolve.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
