NOT SAFE FOR WORK
CONTENT MAY OFFEND SENSITIVE READERS
The Prince of Boston is missing, possibly dead. For many decades he held the city as a closed territory enforced by a small number of powerful vampires in his family. That era is over. Vampires are flocking to the city seeking every kind of opportunity… to gain power, form relationships, and build a vibrant underground vampire social life with art, parties, clubs and congenial feeding opportunities. No one is sure what became of the powerful vampires in the former Prince’s court, but so far they have not stepped forward to object or assert authority. For now, everything is in flux.
Boston’s more perceptive human denizens are getting their first real contact with vampires as the incredibly conservative and private regime of the former Prince releases it’s stranglehold on vampire activity and information. Some vampires have brought their human companions with them.
Setting & Story
The setting for our vampire story is modern day, mostly real but slightly fictionalized Boston. We can twist the truth of the city to meet the needs of our Vampire characters.
We are inventing a Vampire story of our own. There is a lot to discover. As a Narrator I am interested in character change and development, character relationships, writing together, alternative moral codes, risk taking, and good writing. This is more Story and less Game. I have some ideas, but no set narrative. The story will come from the characters you create and will develop organically. Challenges will be designed to draw out descriptive writing and character story and development.
Here are some things I hold true about Vampires in this story…
- Vampires desire things and may desire them unfulfilled for a long time. They enjoy wanting. Ecstatic states may result for either or both parties when a Vampire gets what they want.
- Vampires do have fangs, they do bite, and they do drink blood. They can eat and drink other things too, it just doesn’t serve them or taste as good as blood.
- Sunlight hurts Vampire eyes, mesmerism doesn’t work in daylight, they get severe instant sunburns that take awhile to heal, and they are overall just more vulnerable when the sun is out. The higher the sun in the sky, the more apt a Vampire is to simply fall into a comatose sleep wherever they are.
- If your Master dies, you will know it, and it hurts. But it won’t kill you.
- Conversion to being a vampire requires being near death and drinking the vampire’s blood.
- A really thirsty Vampire will eventually lose control and act out violently and behave in risky ways to get a drink. Even the oldest vampires get thirsty.
- Some level of secrecy and discretion must be maintained for the sake of Vampire safety and privacy. If the larger human society knew… well, who knows what might happen, but it wouldn’t be good for the Vampires.
Here is some stuff that this story Is Not:
- Not as gory as True Blood vampires.
- Not sparkly (or juvenile) like Twilight vampires.
- Not stuck in clans like Masquerade vampires.
- Not all evil like Buffy’s vampires.
- Not as angsty as Anne Rice vampires - but that being said these are my favorite vampires overall.
- And there will be no werewolves. Or ghosts. Absolutely not. No other supernatural creatures, just Vampires and Humans.
Writers & Readers
All writers in this story will be self-identified as women / female in gender and 18 years of age or older.
[Update 2/25/2015: Why all female? This is an experiment based on some of us having prior experience writing erotic fiction in mixed groups. We think that the all female writing group may change the way we approach writing collaborative ecstatica / erotica. So far, it has been a very appealing experiment and specifically attractive to the writers that have submitted characters which validates my desire to try the experiment.]
Characters can be whatever gender you want and exercise whatever preferences they want, or no preference at all.
Not Safe For Work (NSFW)
Writing and reading of this story will include erotica, blood, kink, ecstatic experience, and some violence. Characters will be morally ambiguous in the eyes of mainstream society. If you want to stretch, take risks, and write (and read) that stuff, welcome home. So do I.
That said, this story will be public and available to read by anyone on Storium.
Character Submissions
Characters will be reviewed and accepted or rejected based on how interesting they are and if they will contribute to a vibrant story. The Narrator will try to work with any serious submitter to clarify or refine their character submission.
Strong inter-character relationships will be key to the success of this story. Look for relationships, foster them, build them from early on.
The Narrator may write significant NPC characters referenced in your character descriptions as needed. Players may also be offered opportunities to write second characters in order to fill out the cast if a proposed Fledgling character needs a Master and so forth.
ALL CHARACTERS
Please include a physical description of your character in your submission - what would someone meeting the character see, how old are they or do they appear to be, how do they dress.
There should also be some background or history of your character, enough for the Narrator to know something of their style, flavor, and motivations. The rest can be revealed in the story telling.
Nature Cards have been provided. Please choose one. More than one character of a type is certainly possible, but then again, they can’t all be vampires. Please read other characters submitted and accepted before yours to help you design a character that will balance the story and create relationship possibilities.
Sub-Plot Cards are provided but please feel free to create your own or edit the Narrator’s provided cards. Choose something in keeping with your Nature card. The Narrator will carefully review player created cards to insure an interesting and balanced game.
Please address the open ended portions of the nature and sub-plot cards in your character description.
VAMPIRES
Strength Cards: Every Vampire character must take a Vampiric Power strength card. Wild strength cards could also be used to exercise a unique vampire super-power not already available on the Vampiric Power Card. Please be sensitive to how powerful your vampire really is based on age when exercising super-powers.
Weakness Cards: Every Vampire must take a Thirst weakness card. A vampire might choose to make a wild weakness card reflect their susceptibility to sunlight should an appropriate challenge come up.
Strength or Weakness wild cards could also reflect something about the individual character of the vampire, traits they might have even if they were human or as a result of having been born in another age.
HUMANS
Humans characters can create their own strength & weakness cards based on their character. Please let me know if you need some help or suggestions; feel free to draft a card for character submission purposes and ask me to help you refine it.
Many initially human characters will eventually convert to being vampires at some point in the story. Read the nature cards for more about that.
Creative Commitment
Before submitting a character for this story, please read this Agreement Letter and be prepared to affirm to the Narrator that you understand & agree. http://ourstorium.net/agreement-letter/
Feel free to dig into the ourstorium.net web site further around any point you are concerned or curious about, or just to get more educated about Storium and how this Narrator plays.
Participating in Storium will take some time and requires commitment. If you aren’t going to be able to participate consistently and promptly the majority of the time, please pass this story by. http://ourstorium.net/creative-commitment/time-commitment/
Please write the majority of your moves in present or present future tense. Past tense is acceptable if you are specifically telling a story or recounting something that happened in the past. Overuse of past tense will be grounds for the Narrator to request a revision.
Cardless moves that add information, color, and character development are welcome. Offline conspiring and coordination between Writers is encouraged - including the Narrator is recommended so that your conspiracies and desires can be fostered and furthered.
Update 4/13/2015
ORIGINAL BUT NO LONGER TRUE: The plan is for this story to go at a steady pace. One scene every week to 10 days from the Narrator with a couple of moves per player per week, more if you want to. If you can write once on a weeknight, and once on the weekend, we’ll set a nice steady pace for everyone.
TURNS OUT: We are a high volume hard core writing group generating a lot of volume. The number of scenes per week is not much of a reflection on the amount of content that we are writing or how fast we are moving. I reclassified the game as Hard Core.
