Small towns. Every corner of the world has them. Often we describe ourselves as being from a larger city, a geographical anchor somewhere on the map, but most of us are typically from some dusty road or damp small town far removed from the bustle of the metropolis or the scurry of shopping carts and minivans peppering the suburbs. How did we come to this?
The small town is a tighter community. The neighbors know your name or help you with your geometry. Kids sell lemonade on the corner without the parental worry of abduction or some late night news piece. Why would we as people ever want to leave something so idyllic?
The Friday night is the new Sunday morning. The whole town crowds the football fields. The tiny bathrooms stink only less than the hot dog steamer at the concessions booth. Church is kick off and the touchdown is the path to salvation. But Sunday mornings still exist, and the pastors speak of wild things, resurrection and love. It keeps the community close.
Farnham, Oregon is tucked in the foothills of the Cascade mountain range near the Santiam Pass. The summers are warm and the winters mild.
What I am looking for: a realistic lens on small town life as it comes to the metaphoric winter to spring chances for change. We find our stories on storium filled with the fantastical. Grounding it in a sense of realism would be a refreshing take on the tools.
Tempers raise when families clash over some nearby seemingly questionably owned parcel of property has mineral rights. The local factory will close down from down sizing and it employs a large portion of the town population.
If a skilled player wants to play the pastor or priest of a local church please go for it. The posts will be long and help define some of the struggles.
I am going to leave character generation generally open. But somethings must be changed or edited to meet the demands of a small town. I’m looking for siblings, an old man mayor, the best friend, the outcast, some type of local shop keep (ie barber, store owner, etc), or what ever you’d like to create. I may ask for some modifications to suit the needs of the intermingled relationships.
It would be easier if most of the characters were younger as to not have a tone of baggage that would have to be explored. However, if you create and older adult please add some depth to your character creation profiles.
This is will be 5-6 chapters with 2-3 scenes each.
